Stoke Newington High Street and Church Street
N16 has nineteen Turkish restaurants along a mile of high street: the ocakbaşı houses that made the area's name in the 1990s, Kurdish grills, bakeries, and the meze restaurants that came later. The older ocakbaşı places sit at the southern end near Dalston; Church Street has the newer, pricier rooms. Weekend breakfast is a fixture and the queues are real.
Dalston Kingsland and Kingsland Road
E8 around Dalston Junction and down Kingsland Road towards Shoreditch has thirteen more: late-night ocakbaşı grills that run past midnight, doner counters, a kokoreç specialist and the Turkish supermarkets that supply them. This is the late-night end of the borough and the place for a mixed grill at one in the morning.
Shoreditch and the EC2A end
The Shoreditch group serves the office and club trade with meze-led rooms and modern grills. Prices rise and the Turkish clientele thins out, but the standard of the best is high.
Hackney Wick and Homerton
E9 is the borough's one thin patch: the new residential districts along the canal have outpaced the restaurants, and the demand data shows searches without a matching cluster. Elsewhere in Hackney the advice is to buy into an existing business rather than open a new one.
